Upon application to the University of Idaho, the Admissions Office determines your initial status as a resident or non-resident of Idaho for tuition purposes. For questions regarding your admission, please contact the Admissions Office at 208.885.6326.
- One or more of your parents or legal guardians is a resident of the state of Idaho and has maintained a bona fide domicile in Idaho for at least one year prior to the opening day of the semester during which you plan to enroll.
- You have continuously been a resident in the state of Idaho for at least 12 months and have established a bona fide domicile in the state of Idaho primarily for purposes other than education and you receive less than fifty percent support from parents or legal guardians.
- You attended an Idaho college or university during the term immediately following graduation from an Idaho high school and are currently enrolled in an Idaho college or university.
- You are married to an Idaho resident.
- You are a member of the Armed Forces stationed in the state of Idaho on military orders.
- One or more of your parents or legal guardians is a member of the Armed Forced stationed in the state of Idaho on military orders and you receive at least fifty percent of your support from them.
- You are separated under honorable conditions from the Armed Forces after at least two years of service and at the time of separation designated the state of Idaho as your intended domicile or indicated Idaho as your home of record of service; and you are entering the University of Idaho within on year of the date of separation.
- You have been away from the state of Idaho less than one year and have not established legal residence elsewhere; and you were classified as a resident of the state of Idaho for a continuous 12 month period immediate prior to departure.
- You are a member of one of the following Native American tribes: Coeur d'Alene tribe, Shoshone-Paiute tribes, Nez Perce tribe, Shoshone-Bannock tribes, or Kootenai tribe.
Students who feel they have met the qualifications for Idaho residency, may submit an Idaho Residency Affidavit along with supporting documentation for review by the 15th day of the semester. Fees are due by the first day of the semester; if you are deemed an Idaho Resident after this date, a refund of the difference in fees will be refunded.
