The Evaluation of Transfer Credit
The University of Idaho evaluates all credits earned and grades received for
admitted undergraduate students in college-level courses at regionally
accredited institutions. Credits earned at international institutions or during
study abroad are also evaluated for transfer. Credits from
non-regionally accredited institutions are not accepted for transfer.
However, students may petition the University Curriculum Committee to review
credit received at non-regionally accredited institution; click on link above if
you are interested in petitioning for credit.
- Transfer courses are evaluated on a course-by-course basis; bachelor-level
courses are transferable. Credit for vocational or technical courses are
transferable within limitation and are subject to review by the student's
academic dean and department.
- Students who have earned an Associate of Arts (A.A.) or Associate of Science (A.S.)
degree from
a regionally-accredited institution will enter the University of Idaho with their general
education requirements satisfied.
- The student's major department will determine the applicability of transfer
courses toward the student's degree program.
- Transfer work does not affect the official University of Idaho institutional GPA, which is
used for academic standing and graduation.
- Courses transfer to the University of Idaho on the same level as taken (lower or upper
division) at the original institution.
- Transfer courses given the University of Idaho number 000 transfer as elective credit. With
the approval of the student's advisor, elective credit may be applied as a
substitution to a degree program requirement. See
Degree Audit Substitution/Waiver Request form.
- One transfer course may be equated to two University of Idaho courses, however full credit
may only be given in one course.
- Quarter credits are converted to semester credits. (One quarter credit
equals 2/3 of a semester credit.)
- Credits earned by CEEB and CLEP
Advanced Placement Exams are considered transfer credits.
- Chemistry, English, and Math placement can be based on scores achieved by
ACT, SAT, and Compass exams. Upon completion of first-semester, University of Idaho
institutional credit will be awarded for bypassed English courses.
- University of Idaho accepts some
International Baccalaureate credits in transfer.
- USAC Study Abroad
offers two types of programs; the USAC Language and Culture Program and
institutional exchanges. USAC Language and Culture Program credit is recorded
as University of Idaho institutional credit; institutional exchanges are recorded as transfer
credit.
- Students who have gained university-level knowledge or competence through
life experiences may apply for consideration of
Experiential Learning Credit; if granted this credit is recorded as transfer
credit on the student's record.
Before sending your transcripts, you can review the
Transfer Course Equivalency Guides. First select the state and then
the institution you attended. You will see courses that we have evaluated
from other institutions and what University of Idaho courses (or elective credit) they are
equivalent to. These guidelines are a historical representation of the
course offerings of the institutions, so all courses listed may not be active.
An official evaluation of your transfer work will be completed upon your
acceptance to the university.
